ProTools LE 6.9.2 KILLED my LOGIC 7.1 !!

Hi there,

and bravo for great forum !

I run a powerbook 15 under MacOS 10.4.2, and Logic 7.1 ran great so far,

until I installed DIGI PTLE 6.9.2 !

I didn't even install the DIGIcoreaudio option, knowing by experience it's a trouble maker !

Anyway, since that, Logic "unexpectedly quits" at "loading coreaudio" step.

I updated to DIGI PTLE 6.9.2cs3, claimed to be a coreaudio fixer, with no results.

Anybody out there got these softwares running on the same computer ?

Thanks

Laurent.

Hi David,

thanks for quick reaction !

1) What Audio Interface do you use Logic with?

I used an Edirol FA-101 before PT install, with (almost) no trouble.

Before that, I used the Mac I/O, with no trouble at all, and I even switched from one another a few times, without any problem.

2) What Audio driver is selected in Logic in Audio > Audio Hardware and Drivers?

None, as Logic won't let me select any.

At that point, I got rid of "com.apple.logic.pro" file, and am able to open Logic again, with no audio driver selected.

Selecting either coreaudio or FA-101 with confirmation always brings the app to crash. Gasp !

By the way, ProTools is running like a charm !

(no adv. here, just info !!)

I, of course, reset PRAM, ran AU manager, and even uninstalled PT (which I since got back in), with no success.

It's like the filthy Digi Coreaudio messed up the whole computer !

Any idea ?

I'm sorry to say that's not surprising.. those drivers are really a piece of crap. I always recommend every serious Logic Pro user to get rid of anything digidesign on their machine.. unless you're going to run Logic as a front end for TDM, and even that is not always a happy marriage.

Anyway, did you try repairing permissions on your system drive?

What about selecting "Built-in Audio" in Logic.. does that work?

Built-in audio won't go ..

I'm trying the permissions thing now.

ASAMOF, I'm rather a studio PT user, going Logic for its "swiss knife" side .. which is brilliant !! Even WB3 is a GREAT saver in many situations, despite bad reputation on web forums..

.. meanwhile repairing perms makes no changes (no reboot though ..?..)

well, it seems I'll have to make a choice ..

I'll try to setup a different user for Logic, maybe ..

Thanks for help anyway,

maybe this post can go on if anything come up ..

A+

Laurent

No rebooting after repairing perms won't help.

I wish I could help you further but that's the kind of problem where I would have to be in front of your computer.... kinda hard when we're 6,000 miles away!

All I can say is that it SHOULD work though. I have seen it work.

Report from further investigations :

I finally managed to get Logic running along with DigiCoreaudio .. once !

Logic passed well under a new user account on my Mac. I could even switch from Mac engine to mBox, then FA-101, then back to Mac, all handled brillantly !!

But this worked only ONCE ; Upon quit and relaunch, BAM ! Same ol'ugly quit window !

Besides, that trick didn't work without quitting my main account. Meaning the fresh account must be the only one running for this trick to work.

And a single Logic crash corrupts the involved account for ever !

It seems that as soon as Digidesign get involved anywhere on the machine, it corrupts some Logic essentials, compromising the next startup ..

My next step is to try NOT to get DigiCA involved in the logic session (eg.not selecting mBox as driver), and see if it allows me to quit and relaunch Logic.

But for now, my friends, even new accounts trick don't work any more !!

Well, another coffee_pot is on its way ..

Laurent,

going thru the burdens ..
