Korg Legacy collection not responding to midi [SOLVED]

I bought the Korg Legacy collection a few years ago and recently installed it on my new macbook pro with Logic Pro version 9.1.8. My problem is that Korg Legacy does not respond to my midi keyboard when im playing. It is only when i open each of the synths individually that it responds to my midi controller and there is sound coming. Any ideas?

What version of the Korg software are you using? Which plugins are affected (MS20, Polysix, Monopoly, M1, Wavestation, Cell...?)

 

What MIDI channel are you sending in on? Do you see MIDI activity in Logic's transport when playing? Can you use the caps lock keyboard to play them - does this work?

 

Do other software instruments play ok for you, like Logic's inbuilt ones?

The version is Korg Legacy Collection 1.2.3

 

When i open the Korg Legacy none of the synths are responding to midi. All other logic synths are working fine and other thrid party AU plugins. When i open up standalone polysix, Ms20, wavestation they all work fine and are responding to midi from the midi keyboard. When i open the full Korg Legacy package it does not respond at all.

It is sending midi to legacy cell in Logic 9 but no sounds. The same thing with stand alone version. All other synths works well in standalone but legacy cell does not receive midi in standalone either.

Ok, stick to the Polysix for now.

 

MIDI channel isn't an issue, as it will respond to any channel. So, open a stereo Polysix on a software instrument track.

 

Hit your caps lock key to open the capslock keyboard, and play some keys on your computer keyboard. Does this make a sound, and do you see the Polysix's keyboard respond as you play?

 

Can you upload a song file with one instance of the Polysix we can take a look at?

 

Have you tried in both 32-bit and 64-bit modes..?

It is sending midi to legacy cell in Logic 9 but no sounds. The same thing with stand alone version. All other synths works well in standalone but legacy cell does not receive midi in standalone either.

 

Forget standalones for now, all you need to do is specify the MIDI In and Audio Out to use in the instrument's preferences. They default to no MIDI In iirc correctly, so you have to choose which MIDI In for them to listen to otherwise they will do nothing. They should default to your system audio, if you have an audio interface you might need to manually select that too.

 

We are only concerned with the instruments running as plugins in Logic for now.

I opened polysix and also the capslock keyboard. I played around and it respons. Also the polysix keyboard responds. I tried to switch Logic to 64 bit and the Korg synths went under the 32 bit folder. All work but not the legacy cell as it does not respond when playing on midi keyboard. It sends midi but no sound. The legacy cell however responds to the capslock keyboard.

Ok, if they respond to the capslock keyboard then the plugins are working fine.

The issue then would apear your MIDI connection.

 

With the Polysix track selected, play some notes on your MIDI keyboard. You are saying the instrument does not respond like it does when playing the capslock keyboard? Look at the transport when playing keys - it indicates MIDI reception. Do you see activity here when you play your MIDI keyboard? Or do you see no incoming MIDI activity at all?

Polysix selected and it works fine. It responds the same way as when playing on the capslock keyboard. Polysix indicated midi reception.

 

When i open the Legacy cell it also indicates midi reception but there is no sound coming when playing on the midi keyboard.

Ok, we now know the Polysix works. Does the MS20? The Wavestation?

 

As far as the Cell goes - is there sound coming out when playing the capslock keyboard in the same manner as we did for the Polysix?

 

The Cell only responds to MIDI channels 1, 2 and 3, so make sure your keyboard is transmitting on MIDI channel 1.

 

(Channel 1 = Plays both synths, Channel 2 plays "Synth 1" layer only, Channel 3 plays "Synth 2" layer only).

 

You should be transmitting on MIDI channel 1 to hear the sounds as intended.

Oh when you mentioned that the cell responds to midi channels 1,2,3 i checked my setting on my midi keyboard and it looked like it was sending to channel 7! Now i switched to send to channel 1 on midi keyboard and legacy cell works perfectly now:) thanx for the help:)

I had the same issue. I use an Akai MPKMini 25 controller with reason and Ableton Live. so I am versatile as they come across the board. I need to upgrade to Reason 10 so that the plugin VST setup is available. I learned on Reason 5 so now that I am getting the hang of things and stepping up my commitment I am buying a pro version of 10 instead of dicking around. I want all legit legal software to make my music with. So I have a s#!+ ton of VST plugin synths for various needs in sound development. The Legacy cell is the most advanced easy to use out the gate vintage synth plugin I have played on in decades. I noticed my controller was dead also when I tied to install the M20 software. I had 2 versions one was already patched, one was a generator. The one that was patched give me issues and when I used the keygen to input the lock code and generated the license for 30 days it worked just fine. Also for some reason, the same settings don't apply to all the synths. For example, the M20 setting for soundcard were completely different then the settings for the M1 and when my M1 did not work it was because I had opened the M1 while the legacy cell was open, which includes both the M-20 and the M1 as well as FX and their really amazing preset programs and endless possibilities to make your own combination. and the ability to combine two such awesomely specifically badass synths into one and them a 2 eq filter to modulate the effects. I also noticed the Wavestation plugin does not easily connect to midi seems I have to trigger it on the screen which is a pain because I really like the tools that specific machine has. HAve you encountered the same issues with the wave station? And if so what is the best way to interface it with reason? DO I use a 3rd part DAW like Ableton or Logic to mix it down in a master file after both sides are ready to go? How does it know to access the soundcard for both and can it even do that in my computer when I have just a simple Soundblaster DX card. I know eventually, I am getting an external audio card and midi recording interface. Is that something that is preventing me from functioning fully right now? As far as I know, the sound card won't recognize both programs accessing the card simultaneously. I knew I was going o be limited with my current setup and plan to bu a new gaming computer for music only so it is not bogged down and stays fresh and clean.

Korg legacy vst plugins M1, triton, triton extreme, legacy cell no longer produce sound in apple mainstage on mac sonoma. midi is received but no sound. Same is true in stand alone versions

Is your MIDI keyboard transmitting on MIDI channel 1? it's important for these multitimbral instruments.

Check it, and if not, change your keyboard so it's sending on MIDI channel 1. This will likely fix the issue. (As has already been noted above.)

Thanks, Yes, you are right. The keyboard was not sending on MIDI channel 1. What is interesting is that main stage has no omni mode to handle that case. Ive tried various transforms in the MIDI Input tab for the channel strip but could only get a sound when I switched to MIDI channel 1 on the keyboard
