tcarden
This week i updated my Mac OS to Mojave (10.14) and my tiny little single channel Edirol UM-1x midi interface stopped working. The last driver updates that i found were from 2013. All i need to do at the moment is record incoming midi data from a Nord synth. Do I really even need a midi-interface? Can i just use a midi to USB cable? Seems like the Mac Audio/Midi control panel should suffice as an interface....? Frankly i miss my MOTU rackmount Midi interface w/ 8 cable going out

AFAIK, a midi to USB cable is a MIDI interface with only one possible device connection... Some requires drivers installation while others don't. Some of those are more reliable than others... If only one MIDI port (including its 16 MIDI channels) would suffice to use your Nord keyboard, then no, you don't need a more sophisticated MIDI interface.
