xtina123
I HAVE A GOLDEN AGE PRE 73 MKII and there is a humm that will not go away. I cant use it to record because Logic picks up and records the humm. The Humm is persistant despite turning up or down mic gain, or output volume. I thought at first it was my XLR so I got a new one, and that did not work. I also thought that it was because I do not have a grounding in my studio-but, after reading I found out that this pre-amp uses two-wire AC, without ground. I also have it running through a power conditioner, thinking that may have solved the issue, but it did not. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks! Eriksimon
If it is a continuous hum with a fixed pitch you can effectively filter it out with a Channel EQ plugin. Could you record a bit of it and share that recording here?
Solution triplets Posted February 19, 2019 Solution Share Posted February 19, 2019 Sounds like a grounding issue in the wiring of your place. When the wiring in a building is not done properly you get "dirty" power, which usually results in hum issues.
triplets
Maybe get something like this to test if your place has a grounding problem on the outlets: https://www.amazon.com/Sperry-Instruments-GFI6302-Receptacle-Professional/dp/B000RUL2UU/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_60_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=45SSDP0PT9BJPREC249F
xtina123
Thank you so much! I will try this. I read on a different forum that the pre 73 mkII does not require a grounding, because The unit uses two-wire AC, without ground...? But, I'm going to try testing anyway b/c that what may be causing my monitors to humm..
robinloops
Did you find a solution? You might have developed a ground loop somewhere. I have an issue with a couple of audio interfaces if they are connected with usb and wired through my outboard mixer. Try Disconnecting everything and hook it all back up one piece at a time. This includes external hardware as well. If you find the problem device, you can try powering it from another source. Sometimes that can help with ground loops. If your power conditioner has isolated outlets or isolated groups of outlets, you could try plugging things in different outlets/groups.
