Recording w/out a mic

Recommended Posts

Why can't you record instruments with a USB mic?

You can but a USB mic was designed primarily for talking or basic singing.

Since it's both a mic and an interface it has to be close to the computer because of the USB cable.

An electric bass or electric guitar needs an amp.

Or an audio interface where you can plug in the cable and the amplifier is simulated inside the computer.

You can record an acoustic guitar, but it will pick up the noise of your room as well.

A mic and a separate audio interface will give you more flexibility. Does all this make sense?

"At least for the purposes of recording a 'scratch vocal,'" the built-in microphone of your nearby Macintosh might do a better job than your earbuds would.

Obviously, before you actually release your million-selling single, you're going to need to re-do that vocal, but for now ...

Thanks! But how do i record audio without a microphone? When i click audio when starting it won’t let me record

Ok, so you have a 2014 Macbook Air.

When you wanna use your built-in mic you have to select it in Logic Preferences under Audio and Devices:

Remember to use headphones when you record, otherwise you're gonna record the laptop speakers as well.

Thank you so much! That helps a lot.
