agatetheband
Hi there I wonder if It will be sufficient power when connecting my Axiom 61 Pro to my Macbook pro 13 late 2015 or do I need to get additional power supply? I needed to get one for my external drivers. Not sure if the same thing applies for the Macbook Pro Thank you for the support! Mira
lookatthisguy
Not sure what you're referring to by "external drivers," but bus power should be sufficient to run the Axiom.
agatetheband
Hi, thank you for reply.I had to use powered usb hub to connect my two external hard drive. One for all if the plugins and one for the projects. The bus power wasn't enough. That's why I need to know if the bus power will be enough for midi keyboard.
lookatthisguy
Again, the bus power should be sufficient to power the Axiom.
robinloops
The axiom pro will run on usb bus power but an external power supply is recommended if using on a non powered hub with other devices that pull a low of power form the hub. In general I always prefer to either use powered hubs and/or external power supply because it can eliminate power issues that sometimes can occur if trying to power too many things from a port. But it is not necessary. Just be aware of this if you experience weird (and often intermittent) issues with the axiom or other things running off usb power. agatetheband
Hi thank you for reply. I asked because I am going going to connect the Axiom as long as Apogee Duet interface and two external harddrives. The interface and the two harddrive will be connected to the powered hub. MikeRobinson
If you intend to use a "USB bus-powered" instrument or controller, I generally recommend buying a powered USB hub so that your computer does not have to provide the power. ("Your computer has better things to do with its volts.") Some people have also suggested the use of an external power-pack even when USB-power is an option. I don't know. agatetheband
I was thinking to buy power adaptor for my midi keyboard and connect my interface and external harddrive to powered usb hub.
MikeRobinson
That's what I'd do. Definitely power the hub if you have several things attached to it But, give the keyboard its own source of power to consume so it doesn't have to take it from the USB bus. (Very strange and non-reproducible things can happen to DC electrical circuits when the voltage drops ... so, avoid them.)
agatetheband
Thank you so much for the responce:)
agatetheband
I forgot to ask about it I can connect the usb part of the cable that goes into the iMac into usb wall charger? Since I live in NOrway, I can only buy power adapter for my midi keyboard from USA and it's not compatible with the power grid here.
robinloops
It’s not a regulated supply so you don’t need to buy the supply from m-audio. You can pretty much use any 9 volt adaptor as long as it’s 500 mA (.5 amps).
MikeRobinson
You should be able to find a suitable power-adapter easily enough in Norway: there's nothing particularly special about it. As noted, just determine what is the needed DC voltage and amps. Power-supply plugs come in different standard sizes according to the power they are designed to carry, so that you can't plug the wrong-sized supply into the circuit (and thereby possibly fry it). Any office-supply or consumer-electronics store in any country ought to have what you're looking for: it's not a "music" part.
robinloops
Also keep in mind that amps don’t have to match, they just have to meet the minimum requirement. So for the axiom you need a 9 volt with at least 500 mA (.5 amps) or more. If you know some guitar players, chances are they have a few of these laying around from before they discovered you have to use regulated/isolated/clean power to run pedals while keeping noise down.
