Adam Gainsburgh
Hi Everyone, Despite owning a couple MIDI keyboards, I don't know much about MIDI and what you can do with it, other than that when I play notes, they trigger samples. Or that you can map a hardware controller to software instrument controls. I would like to learn more, particularly about things like MIDI channels and how to use them, particularly related to articulations, maybe modulations, etc. And possibly about other things I don't even realize are possible. Does anyone have a book they'd recommend? I'm pretty focused on the practical aspects rather than super-technical details, but I also know that I don't even know enough to ask particularly intelligent questions at this point. Thanks! Nunstummy
Most of my midi knowledge was gained during problem solving. Without an issue to resolve, I lack the motivation to learn more - sorry. But, like you - I would be interested in a good/current book on midi too! cleamon
You might check out MIDI Power!: The Comprehensive Guide (2nd edition) by Robert Guerin It's more a textbook rather than cookbook, but very complete. Can probably find a used copy on Amazon for little $$.
Adam Gainsburgh
Thanks--I have seen that one (among several others) listed on Amazon.
lookatthisguy
Long ago, I bought a MacProVideo course on MIDI as a standalone app from the Mac App Store. It's called "MIDI 101: MIDI Demystified", and was actually created by former frequent forum user (even moderator) Peter "Ski" Schwartz. Jangus
Here's an old free file that has a lot of basics including the basic midi controllers. Old MIDI.rtfd.zip Old MIDI.rtfd.zip
