Bounce Files Are different than Mix

Recommended Posts

I'm using Logic 9.02; MBP; osx 10.6.4.

My bounces are not coming out the same as my mix. They come out muddier than my original version.

What i've tried.

1. Bouncing in real time.

2. changing the bit rate

3. listening at a .wave & Mp3

4. Normalize on & off

I'm sure there is something i'm overlooking or not doing.

ps. It would be great to have a thread on what all those options in bounce do.

and why they are necessary or etc.

but really if someone could just answer my question and help me bounce what i Mixed.

- Bounce to 24bit wav or aiff, normalize off

- Listen to the bounce through the same monitoring chain (ie. not through itunes on earbuds with sound enhancer on)

- If you still get different results, do a null test:

1. Make sure there are no plugins on the Stereo Out (if there are, move them to an Aux and route all tracks through that)

2. Bounce

3. Move the bounced aufio file to a new track

4. Line it up exactly where the bounce started

5. Put a Gain plugin in that new track and invert the polarity of both its channels

6. Hit play

Now you hear not the sum but the difference of your live mix and your bounce.

If you don't hear anything, there is no difference, thus they're identical and you're imagining things.

If you only hear a crazy modulated synth, then the synth's LFOs aren't synced and thus different every time, so they won't null. You can Freeze any tracks containing any kind of random modulations to avoid this. You can also Freeze any instruments with round robin sample assignments so they play back exactly the same every time.

If you still hear something, then bounce that and post it here.
