A GPU for Macbook Pro

Recommended Posts

HI All,

I don't know anything about the advantages of an external GPU but asking the question. I have a 2019 MacBook Pro

It is my current Covid (Work from Home Workhorse) and it really is great. I have it connected to a LG Ultra HD display (7680 x 4320 (4320p/8K UHD 2 - 8K Ultra High Definition))

And my Movie Display is a 4k 65 Inch Display

Smart TV :

Resolution: 6400 x 3600

UI Looks like: 3200 x 1800 @ 30.00Hz

When I first purchased this machine, I was blown away at how fast it was and how the fans NEVER used to come on. Whether its OS updates or whatever, (WTF knows!) the fans are always ON!.....I am wondering whether its because of the displays? (Although it was the same setup when I purchased it)

Anyway,......Would I benefit from an extern GPU?? Get the fans down any increase CPU efficiency ?

I'm not doing any rendering only mainly Logic X and using either Logic's Movie playback or Video Sync (https://non-lethal-applications.com/products/video-sync-5/video-sync-5)

Any thoughts?

Regards and Thanks,

Hylton

Very possible.

The i9 is famous for just being too hot for a laptop, so the moment you push it with CPU or graphics, the fans have to come on.

And what the M1 Apple chips mean for the future of eGPUs:

Noted! I’ll get them to check it out.

What is most disappointing, when I first purchased it I was working on a TV series and was impressed at how the fans Never came on! A year later using the same Logic template, I finished the series and the fans always on. I did upgrade to Big Sur but that was because I thought it would be more efficient.
