leeguirado
Does anyone have any tips about creating trance riffs? Should you just pick 4 or 5 notes in a scale? and alternate between them? changing note length, velocity etc. Are there any guidelines or musts you should do when it comes to writing melodies? sonsofnarcissus
Without going into theory, the easiest way is to listen to different trance riffs until you internalize that sound (rhythmically and melodically) and then noodle around on your midi keyboard. Don't want to get flamed here but if you want to plagiarize, then listen to copyright free music - just listen to some Mozart, Haydn, Bach etc....one of their pieces will have literally 100s of "riffs" that you could put into a trance context. Pick one bar of one instrument from one clef from any of their compositions and you'll be amazed at how melodic the ideas are. With some rhythmic variation along with typical synth type effects (flanging, delays etc.) you'll have a great riff created.
Nublu
Theme Thematic Development Thematic Progression Thematic Transformation Themes. Listen to music for themes. Read Poetry for themes. Watch a movie for its theme(s). Look at some dancers and the themes in the choereography. A good, well told joke. Last time you read a novel I'm guessing you naturally understood the story's theme and development. I am also guessing your grammar book was almost irrelevant to your involvement with the novel's goings on.... though the characters may have had very unique dialects. Trance ---- > musical "dialect". (kind of) Noodle around 'til you feel like you are saying something. Then bring it. Here's one... enjoy
