snare flam. How and when?

hi everyone, hope all is well.

I've recently got a client who has asked for some music like:

The drums are what they are after, and the they start at 1:22.

Now, I can program drums, albeit I've become a little lazy as of late with the convenience and convincingness of Logic's Drummer, but if I want to create a drum part like this, modern jazz straight 8th influenced, where do I go about beginning?

From a theoretical level, my knowledge of drum kit composition ends at boom-bap. I have no idea how to incorporate the snare on beats other than 2 and 4. (this is bit of an overstatement but you get my drift)

So question:

1. Any drummers out there who are slick at programming live jazzy drums in logic? Willing to lend some quick advice?

2. Those awesome flam and rolls on the snare in the video, is there a method that is preferred for its realism? All the tutorials I found on the web are hip-hop or EDM based. I want some Brian Blade action happening!

I'm trying to transcribe the drums myself right now, and its hard!
