Bachyavelli
Hello! I have a piece in E Major that has a Bb Clarinet part. The key signature for the Clarinet is F# Major with 6 sharps. Is there any way to make the Clarinet's key signature Gb Major with 5 flats instead? Thanks!
volovicg
*** Yes, Make sure the minimize transposed accidentals is checked...
Bachyavelli
Thanks for the quick reply! I am not getting that magic key signature flip Started a new empty project. Added two instruments. Set the second to 'Trumpet in Bb'. Switched the key to E Major. No change. System and Logic Pro up-to-date.
volovicg
Open the staff style for the trumpet and tell me what the transpose value is set to ?
Bachyavelli
It's set to '2'
volovicg
try setting the transpose parameter to -3 and report back if the trumpet is then in Gb ( make sure to also check minimize accidentals.
Bachyavelli
-3 puts it to Db (I do get the 'magic' flip between C#/Db when checking 'Minimize transposed accidentals' though)
Bachyavelli
Another update: Tried on 2 other machines, 2010 iMac, 2012 Macbook Pro, both running Logic Pro 10.4.1. Same result on both: No F#->Gb Main machine is a 2014 Mac Mini. :-/
Bachyavelli
I know see a problem in your gif example. Instrument 3 is switching from C#->Db, not F#->Gb. My fault in the original post saying 5 flats instead of 6. Minimizing accidentals from F#->Gb wouldn't make a change because they have the same number of sharps and flats (6 and 6) Been digging through every setting to no avail. volovicg
Yea yea... ok set the clarinet part to Gb - and then transpose the non clarinet part to E
Bachyavelli
Gotcha. Change the key and use staff styles and region settings to make everything jive. This is an interesting edge case. Or bottom of the circle of 5ths case. For Horns in F this shows up when the key is B Major. Horns will be in F# Major. In Cb Major the Horns are in Gb Major. That makes sense to my music theory brain. Thanks for your help!
