rhys
What tips can you give us for programming electronic drums? especially when incorperating electronic drums with guitars etc, any special considerations?
acortini
my tip would be to listen to a ton of Depeche Mode! aside from jokes, i don't really have any specific tip to give you. The way i program drums comes from having listened to other artists and played around with gear (especially hardware drum machines) for a while. I don't analyze the relationship between the drums and guitars much in the context of a song, besides trying to hear if it works or it doesn't. Apologies for not having a more specific answer, but i am far from being logical when it comes to programming and sometimes i also forget how i did certain things (but that might be the age). tristancalvaire
Perhaps an extension on this– do you prefer to work with a drum machine / separate entity from the computer, or to sequence samples within a DAW?
acortini
Drum machine. I hardly ever use the DAW for creating ideas these days. That might change in the future though! A.
