Interesting Article about the "Loudness Wars"

When I listen to a lot of music today, I merely think that "the loudness gets in the way." Fundamentally, it means that there is very little variety – and, very little originality – in the producer's use of this very-important aspect of music. And we can't just blame it all on earbuds.

It surprises me a little, though, that the NYT author made absolutely no mention (that I could see) of what was a very important consideration for early albums – "vinyl!" You literally had to think about the plastic and the diamond needle, and whether this was to be the outermost track on the disc or the innermost.
