Wired News article:Pete Tong - Apple's gone wrong?

Recommended Posts

Well, of course "There's a little bit of Microsoft in there". Microsoft is one of the most successfull computer software company to date, and any computer company that starts to seriously grow and become powerfull will "have a little bit of Microsoft in there", or at least that's what they'll look like.

Yes, Apple is growing bigger and having more software and more hardware to offer than ever before. Yes, that means the company has more employees, and yes that means less time for tech-support, and less customer-friendly appearance.

But Apple can't stay your neighborhood computer store for ever. I'm sure when Steve Jobs still worked out of his garage and first had the idea of attaching a screen, a keyboard and a mouse to a computer to make it more user-friendly, he probably answered his customer's calls personally.

So as you lose some (nice) aspects of the small company, you gain some (nice as well!) aspects of the big company. More advertising means a bigger customer base, and a bigger community of users such as this here site. More people working on the software and more communication with the professional users, meaning more professional features added to each new release. And so on and so on.

There are today brand new DAW softwares that are available for nothing or almost nothing. You still have a choice. If you are using Logic today, there's a reason for it. And that's a good reason, not a stupid one such as Apple preventing OSX to work with anything but Logic (now that would really be reminiscent of Microsoft, and really stink - and be in violation of federal laws in the meantime!). There is a reason you are buying an iPod rather than the competition. There is a reason people want powerbooks, iMacs or G5s.

Do you know if Pete Tong got his hearing back? I guess he did, given all the stuff he does now.
