Hide alias in score

How to completely hide alias regions in a score with Logic Pro X 10.4.4 ? Not only showing empty staves (staves with rests) as it is done when choosing "Score : Hide" in the region's inspector of Arrange window or checking the box "Hide muted regions" in File/Project Settings/Score/Global.

The purpose of what you want to achieve is not clear yet... do you want to hide only some alias of an instrument but display some of the alias of that same instrument?

Or - if the alias is for a track just to make an accompanying sound, ( say drum track) and is not part of the Score then you need to create a Scoreset of the instruments that you want to display in the Score which ignores the track with the Alias - and then it won't be displayed.

Thanks for your answer. My purpose is to display in score repeat signs for some regions in an instrument track and not display at all in score the second time that region is played by the instrument (so in the same track). Logic 9 was able to do that by UNCHECKING the box called "show alias" in the menu File/Project settings/Score/Global. This box disappeared in Logic X and alternatives like "Hide muted regions" in the same menu or "Score : Hide" in the region inspector of arrange window just hides notes but still display empty staves (with rests).

Are you needing the Alias to play so that you can hear the Instrument when it is on the second time of a Repeat but you dont want Logic to display the notes?

Here is what I usually do:

1/ Complete the Instrument Track say - Track 1 - with all the Alias you want ( ie before you try to make the Score) - Then copy all the regions to a second track- say Track 2 - with the same Instrument and turn them to Real Copies and join them where appropriate

2/ Bounce the original Track 1 of Aliases so that the Instrument plays the sound you want to hear throughout the project - this Track will no longer be part of the Score display

3/ Switch off Track 2 in the Inspector so it does not play ( use the Track ON/OFF button not Mute ) - this track is now a copy of Track 1

4/ Insert the repeats etc with 1st x Bar in the correct play but leave 2nd time bars where it actually occurs in the Track

5/ Chop out and delete the part of the Region that would normally be between the Repeat Sign of the 1st x Bar and the beginning of the Second x Bar so that in say a 16 Bar repeat you have the following on your Instrument Track working with the Regions on that track:

5/ Region: Bar 1 - 8 ( with bars 7 8 the First x Bar)

Gap - CUT bar 9 - 14 of the Region

Next Region Starts at Bar 15 and continues ( with bars 15 16 the Second x Bar)

* * *

You can now turn this Track into a Part Score part. - the part will not play ( because you have switched off the Track will LOOK correct for printing - the Score will not have the extra bars and the Repeat signs will make visual sense ( you will simply see the play head disappear in the Score Editor while it is playing the gap of bars from 9 - 14)

* **

If this is not what you meant... no problem at all :)

  • 6 months later...

It appears (due to redundancy) the global option has been removed due to the fact you can hide any region from the score ( including Aliases) on an individual basis by clicking on the main window region inspector...more and under the score option - select hide.. This will hide the alias'd region... Using this method you can pick and choose which aliases you want hidden as opposed to the previous global layout method where they were all either hidden or all visible.

Once you confirm - I can mark this issue closed.

Thanks

Thank you - this is extremely useful to be reminded of. Amazing what important elements of Logic are easily forgotten through habit of use...
