Want to STOP GarageBand opening MIDI files automatically when downloaded

Hi All

Each time I download a MIDI file within Safari, regardless of if LPX is running or not, GarageBand always opens the MIDI file. Can someone advise please how I stop this happening? I don't want to open Garageband at all, unless I run the app, and this annoying 'feature' of Safari is very irritating.

Can anyone advise please?

Many thanks

Choose Preferences > General in Safari and uncheck Open "safe" files after downloading.

PS. This option is on by default but is a real concern security wise.

Here's a recent exploit that was patched:

GarageBand 10.1.6

Released February 13, 2017

Projects

  • Available for: OS X Yosemite v10.10 and later
  • Impact: Opening a maliciously crafted GarageBand project file may lead to arbitrary code execution
  • Description: A memory corruption issue was addressed through improved memory handling.
  • CVE-2017-2374: Tyler Bohan of Cisco Talos
