David Nahmani
Here are a few workflow tips to get started in Logic Pro: 1. Use key commands. When you're looking for something (say, I want to nudge regions, or transpose notes in the Piano Roll), choose Logic Pro > Key Commands > Edit and search for the corresponding keyword ("nudge" or "transpose"). Then see what keyboard shortcuts are assigned and learn them. 2. Use at least one screenset, screenset #1, to be your "Home". I like to set up my song at a zoom level where I can see all tracks, all regions, my default toolset (Pointer/Marquee), and most panes closed but the Inspector, so that if I zoom too far and open too many panes or windows I can go home by pressing 1. 3. Learn how to toggle panes on and off: Y = Library I = Inspector X = Mixer P = Piano Roll E = Editor F = File Browser D = Event List 4. Get familiar with the basic navigation techniques: • Shift-click the background to position the playhead. • Click the lower-half of the ruler position the playhead. • Press Command-U to set cycle by selection. • Press < and > for Rewind and Forward, Shift-< and Shift-> for Fast Rewind and Fast Forward. • Shift-Spacebar to play from selection. • Control-S to Solo selection (works great along with Shift-Spacebar!) 5. Learn basic zooming techniques: • Control-Option-drag to zoom in, click to zoom out. • Command-arrows to zoom incrementally. • Press Z to zoom on selection and Z again to zoom back out. 6.
