David Nahmani
In Logic 9, you can drag the different editor buttons at the bottom of the Arrange area (Mixer, Sample Editor, etc...), all the Lists tabs (Event, Tempo, etc...) and the Bin tab to open those areas as independent windows. Good hint! Too bad that only the event list and environment can be opened as floating ;-( Would love to be able to open the piano roll & mixer window as well as floating windows. Unlike earlier versions of Logic, only the Event List and the Environment can be opened as floating window.
stoneface
…and of course by "floating windows" David means a window that floats *above* everything else on the screen. These can be clicked on without losing focus on windows behind them.

David Nahmani
…and if you click your track with "alt" pressed you always get a floating window/ the Pianoroll! That's a normal window - not a floating window. A floating window is a window that stays "floating" on top even as you're working on the other windows below. Try holding Option as you choose Window > Environment or Window > Event List to see a floating window in action - here's an example (notice the thin title bar indicating a floating window):
tigermaster
you can do alt/double click on the selected region to let them open on a separate window, it works for audio and midi regions, midi region it will open the one you have selected in the preferences, piano roll, score or event list. i hate those views under the arrange, i would love to disable them completely.
