Audio fx not working

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to logic pro x, I've started working through apple pro training book, I'm on chapter 2. It tells me to connect a guitar to an audio track, (i'm using a keyboard) I can hear my piano sound coming through fine. When I select audio fx in the inspector and choose an effect, nothing happens i.e. no change in sound, I've tried adding reverbs, delays and nothing happens. The track is record enabled. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong....much obliged to you.

Hello and welcome to Logic Pro Help, gb01.

Click this link to your signature and add your system information:

• Logic version and sub-version (e.g. Logic 10.0.7)

• OS X version and sub-version (e.g. OS 10.9.3)

• Computer (e.g. MacBook, Mac Pro, iMac)

• Processor (e.g. 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)

• Audio interface manufacturer and model (e.g. Presonus AudioBox USB)

• MIDI Controller manufacturer and model (e.g. M-Audio Axiom Pro 49)

(most of that information can be found by choosing Logic Pro X > About Logic Pro X, and  > About This Mac)

I can hear my piano sound coming through fine. When I select audio fx in the inspector and choose an effect, nothing happens i.e. no change in sound,

Sounds like you're not monitoring through Logic. Tell us about your setup and will help you set it up right.

Hi triplets, thanks very much for replying. I've got it to work by selecting input monitoring on the track header. Despite the track being record enabled I can hear effects only when input monitoring is selected, is that normal? There's nothing in the training manual saying I need to select it. I have "auto input monitoring" checked in the record menu. Thanks gb

Go to your Logic Audio preferences and uncheck the "Input monitoring only for focused track, and record-enabled tracks".

Also, according to what you're describing, you're monitoring both through Logic and directly through the interface. You want to monitor through one or the other, not both. Software monitoring should be your choice since you want to monitor with Logic's effect plug-ins.

I have "auto input monitoring" checked in the record menu.

If you leave it checked, and you monitor with the record-ready button only, the input signal will not be heard in playback mode.

So, if you want to practice a part in playback mode, use the input monitor button to monitor the input signal. Alternatively, turn auto input monitoring off and monitor with either the record-ready button or the input monitoring button.

I know, this is unnecessarily confusing.
