Shawn S
Not sure where else to ask this question… Is it possible to control OSX system audio (i.e. volume up/down/mute) via a MIDI controller (apart from Logic)? If so, how or where do you set this up? I have a Korg nanoKontrol2. I'm running Lion, but I can upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks, if I know it will work. Thank you! Jordi Torres
You can do this with Midipipe and its Applescript Trigger tool. Attached is a Midipipe document that listens to MIDI note 59 to mute, MIDI note 60 to decrease volume, and MIDI note 61 to increase volume. You could edit the note numbers in the scripts to use those you prefer. You'll need Midipipe to run this of course. It's free: http://www.subtlesoft.square7.net/MidiPipe.html This way of doing it is not super smooth, but works. If you send it a quick succession of note messages, it sort of "chokes". Also, if you don't like the beeps, they can be edited out of the up and down scripts. J. JTVolControl.mipi.zip
Shawn S
Wow, thanks Jordi. You are very kind. Just to be clear, I assume from your description that I can not assign volume up/down to a fader/slider controller, or it will overload or choke (i.e. "quick succession of note messages") - is that correct? Jordi Torres
You're welcome. I didn't try with other type of MIDI messages, just notes (seemed like the natural choice to emulate hitting those function keys on the computer keyboard)...it probably won't be better with CC's. J. Shawn S
Got it. I'll give it a try. Thanks again, Jordi. I never would have found this on my own.
