using zoom h2 as a usb mic

Recommended Posts

Hi

I would really appreciate some help...

I am new with Logic and I have been using my Zoom H2 as a USB Mic, it was working great but recently I am having troubles.

The H2 connect good and it sounds good but when I start to record there is suddenly lot of distorsion coming in (in the monitor and also when I listen to what I recorded). Sometimes it even get completly delayed...

I really don t know what to do, sometime I manage to record a bit before it goes crazy but there should be something to do no??

Thanks for your help

Jerere

Hello and welcome to Logic Pro Help.

Click this link to your signature and add your system information:

• Logic version and sub-version (e.g. Logic 10.0.3)

• OS X version and sub-version (e.g. OS 10.8.5)

• Computer (e.g. MacBook, Mac Pro, iMac)

• Processor (e.g. 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)

• Memory (e.g. 2GB)

• Audio interface manufacturer and model (e.g. Presonus AudioBox USB)

• MIDI Controller manufacturer and model (e.g. M-Audio Axiom Pro 49)

(most of that information can be found by choosing Logic Pro X > About Logic Pro X, and  > About This Mac)

The H2 connect good and it sounds good but when I start to record there is suddenly lot of distorsion coming in

Have you tried updating the H2's system software?

First of all, thanks Jordi for such a fast answer....

I just tried to update my zoom (which is apparently still in the 1.40 version) and didn t succeed :(

Tried 3 times and the same thing happened.

The screen in the beginning is almost the same as what they show

Version up

System: 1,40 "arrow" **** (instead of 1.90 like in the screen they show)

Boot : 1.02

Then I press OK

It shows

version up

keep power on

And suddenly

Version up

Error!

Please power off

Any idea what to do with that?

Thanks

Ooops... You re right I was using a SDHC.

I changed for a normal SD and the update worked!

Tried again to record on a project I started few months ago.

Half a second after starting I got this message

Logic Pro :

System Overload.

The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time.

(-10011)

I then tried a new project and it s kind of working, I don t have the terrible distortion anymore but I still have a one second delay!

Could it be that my computer is needing some fixing/upgrade??

Merci a toi Jordi

That could be due to many things, hard to say for sure without knowing the details of your setup or what your project's like.

It had been a long time since I connected my H2 as an audio interface (although I do remember getting blasts of white noise when using it like this), but I can get it to record with very little latency (as low as 5,2ms roundtrip latency when the I/O buffer is set to 32 samples). However, even if that went fine...after 15 to 20 minutes of having it connected...surprise, surprise...blast of white noise! And my H2 firmware is up to date (version 1.90).

So I guess this thing is not very reliable as an audio interface...

Thanks a lot, looks like I understand a bit better....

I played a bit with the I/O buffer (it was on 256 samples) reducing it to 32, it really helps, no more delay and good recording sound.

But like what you described, after a few minutes (sometime more, sometime less) the distortion is back... Then need to restart Logic and it s fine again :(

But.... I found a discussion about this subject :

Apparently the way a few people fixed this problem is by using a powered USB !!!! I am gonna order one and I ll try that!

You're welcome!

You don't need to restart Logic, simply disable and re-enable Core Audio in Logic's audio preferences.

Well that sounds like a good simple solution, I hope it works for you!
