Sitting at home with a cold. iPhone is the only tool I have. The ads make the forum totally useless. Full screen ad followed by a paragraph (maybe) and more full screen ads. They move. Flat F**king Useless!

Dont mind me - I'm sick...grumpy...

:(

I'm not experiencing that here. Ads on my iPhone take at the most 1/3 of the height of the screen. If you can, please post a screenshot of your experience so that I can share the pain. :(

Yes. And the bouncing ads just caused my post to go somewhere else. Typing on the iPad is virtually impossible as the screen is jumping around all over the place.

Ok let me try to answer some thread on the iPad.

I'm really sorry about all these frustrating experiences guys. I hope we can find a solution that's a little more satisfying to everyone.

Ok I tried the iPad and got an experience that to me wasn't that different from the desktop. Mostly it's ok but sometimes the content is shuffled to make room for new ads, which we can all agree is annoying but right now I don't know how to avoid it. Where it becomes truly annoying is when you're using the quick reply box at the bottom of a topic because the ads that pop up in between posts can all of a sudden push that quick reply box down so far that isn't no longer in view.

Right now the best way to avoid that is to not use the Quick Reply box but instead the gray "Full Editor & Preview" or the green "+ Post Reply" button at the bottom left of a topic to access the full posting page. Apparently that one will initially load a header ad at the top, but that stays put and does not change while you're typing. So the text box stays put and doesn't move. Which certainly makes for a nicer experience.

To completely resolve this issue I'm wondering if I should just disable the Quick Reply box and force everyone to go to the full posting page for posting.

The trouble can be if you go to click the Full Editor button an Advert which has delayed loading can suddenly jump in its way due to where it's positioned. This has happened to me twice now on phone, and caused me to navigate to the advert in my browser.

I know most ads are safe, but a lot of people get uncomfortable/worried if they're browsing and get unwantedly sided by one. I know a lot of people in the audio world who don't even understand the concept of web browser tabs for example and they mistake such behaviour as spyware etc.

If you do away with the quick reply please put the ad placement under the button would help prevent this. Also try and simulate a slow Internet connection when testing, because they jump like crazy for me too - maybe a geo/DNS thing?

Don't usually use my phone to be fair, ah advert now popping up when Im typing. This isn't great experience must admit.

Could you just put a target for month/year for what you'd need in PayPal donations maybe? And just klll the ads if we reach it? I haven't a clue what revenue they offer so maybe it's not achievable!?

Isn't there a setting to allot defined static-sized spaces on the page layout, so the new ads don't continuously shuffle the display with every new ads to appear?

The ads have gotten out of control over here. I haven't been super active around here lately, but when I do come around, I don't stay very long for the ads. I would much prefer a membership type system and remove all the ads. (even as I type this response, my screen shifts up and down with the new banner ads at the top. :(

(plus, and I know you don't have a lot of control over which ads are shown, really hate the dead dog photo multiple times on my screen)

Hi Kayle,

I'm sorry about your experience with the ads. I'm still working on optimizing the ad layout and by optimizing I mean keep only the ones that are the most efficient, I may end up removing some of them in the process.

In the meantime, if a specific ad is annoying to you, you can click the blue triangle that appears at the very top right of the ad, then click "Report this ad", then click "Not interested in this ad". The ad should no longer show for your.

Hope that helps a little bit.

Hey David - I know it cost's money to run this site, but I (and I'm sure many others) would gladly pay a yearly "membership" fee to remove the ads entirely. Have you given any thought to seeing what that fee would be and offer that option and see if you have any takers?

Thanks for the feedback KC, I highly appreciate hearing the opinions of users.

Yes I have given it some thought, but couldn't successfully put something in place. I'm willing to try again. Let me figure out a monthly subscription price that would make sense and see if I can set that up for you.

I wasn't thinking just for me - might be too expensive. I was thinking for everyone. Take your income from the ads and say something like, "if x number of people can give me x number of $$ a month/year, i can turn off ads" kind of thing? We could PayPal you the $$ and not have you have to set up a whole payment system kind of thing? See if it works on the honor system - if not, you could turn the ads back on?

I don't know how the web programming/e-store thing works, so maybe this isn't doable? Just thinking out loud. But I wouldn't want you to go to the trouble just for me. I will click on the ads I don't like.

Thanks David!

No, that wouldn't work. I know I wouldn't have enough people willing to sign up.

On the other hand for the select few willing to pay a monthly sub I could set up their account here to hide the ads. That wouldn't necessarily be too complicated. Do you have an amount in mind you'd be willing to pay per month for an ad-free experience on Logic Pro Help?

I don’t have a number in mind. Another site I belong to I donated $50 a year I believe. But it is a private group, and everyone donates (at least they did. They have since stopped donations as they have a positive balance). They are not running it as a business like you are, so I don’t expect the same result from you - I understand this is part of your living.

Of course, the more of us willing to chip in, the cheaper it should be, yes? Might be worth asking how many folks would be interested. Or, maybe it is fine just as it is.

And truthfully, I am a bad use case, as I’ve been a member here for 13 years and only 335 posts. So I say, leave well enough alone. Thanks for your thoughts David.
