90 day free trial of Logic Pro X

Thu Mar 26, 2020 3:08 pm

I must admit, this is good news. Maybe an update to Logic is coming up soon?

I like the idea, but after using LPX, like forever, it seems a little like getting a 90 trial on a marriage. I knew 90sec.s after meeting my (future) wife I was all in (like forever)...and she's been training me ever since.../s~

I seriously doubt that a new version (like 10.5) is coming any time soon ;-)
A 90-day free-trial is a grand idea.

I'm devoted. I have multiple DAWs (no ProTools any more) and spend every day trying to learn more about the tool. I am a manual reader, having started the computing world in 1970 when the documentation was, uhhh, more complete. Been running Logic Pro X since 2013 - never used a version prior. My loss. The documentation in Logic Pro X simply dumped a tremendous amount of useful (if not required) documentation on how to actually use the program.

After dozens of attempts to find out what a particular command does, or how to actually use Logic I find that the *most* valuable resource is the Logic Pro 9 User Manual - go hunt down "Navigation Snapshot" - brilliant. Not a peep in Logic Pro X docs. Try linking Event List windows - wow - how amazingly useful.

I need to start a new learning process - "Logic Pro - The Lost Documents" to explore what was redacted/elided from the Logic Pro X Manual.

My current project is the "Logic Pro X Command of the Day" at https://www.studio-interns.com - one year + 3 months down - only about 1,200 commands to go...

Yes, ever since the Apple days the documentation has kept getting leaner in detail, even as more functions are added. As you've found, earlier manuals, particularly LP7, can be useful, as long as you're familiar with some of the differences.

I still remember my first, the C-Lab Creator/Notator manuals for V3.x which were lovely, well-written things... and I still have boxes of manuals from there, right through to LP9 which was the last version that came with any printed documentation. The Logic Studio boxes were immensely heavy..!

I have copies of Logic 8, 9, and 10 manuals - I research them all the time ;-)
Fortunately the version 9 manual is available online easily...

I have gone back to Notator manuals, but I disliked Notator in the beginning when I was an Opcode Vision user - hard for me to get over the preference for Opcode's tools...

Spending my days learning my tools.

It's not 90 days, it's a 30 days FCP free trial here in Canada. Still no LPX trial. What's going on with Apple?

Give it some time, it does say it will change in a few days to change to 90 days.

Indeed, but in Canada, it's (still) a 30 days trial
https://www.apple.com/ca/final-cut-pro/trial/

and no LPX trial offer https://www.apple.com/ca/logic-pro/

And it's the same as Canada in the UK... https://www.apple.com/uk/final-cut-pro/trial/

Hah. And I've been wondering why parts of the EXS Library are pseudo-encrypted.

France is 30 days too. Might be because of different laws in different countries.

I guess so. Anyway, 30 days is not bad at all, but why, oh why no Logic Pro X trial offer neither in the UK & Canada (and probably other countries too)? That makes no sense to me.

It generally takes a while to roll out changes worldwide, many things don't happen simultaneously in various counties... Not that many people here need an LPX demo, anyway... ;)

OTOH, there are many Canadian and UK LPH readers here who use e.g., Cubase, Pro tools, Studio One, Reaper and other DAW who'd like to try LPX. I wish they will that opportunity soon!

Hah, that's brilliant. Surprisingly in-depth too, good work! I like how you've tagged some of it too.

It does state on the original link I included that it will take a few days for it to update the Apple website.

Good news! I would be a very happy Canadian if I could try FCP for 90 day!

Anyone know if these trials are once per apple account, or once per hardware? Just wonder, if for example you wanted to try LPX/FCP and it didn't run very well - but upgraded Hardware the following year and wanted to try it again?

what scares me... now, everyone will install the LX demo, and come here to ask questions ("what is midi", "what does the record button do", "how do i make a trap beat", "where is the hit single button"). etc.

90 days of overlapping installs, new posts, and we can't go out... yikes
