Plugin Automation - turn a plugin on/off?

Thank you Daivd. Would I need to automate it turning on at the beginning of the track as well, to ensure it's on until the end?

Yes. Choose an automation mode such as Latch or Touch. Press play, and at the desired moment, click the plug-in on/off button, either at the top left of the plug-in window, or if the plug-in window is closed, to the left when you mouse over the plug-in insert.

I guess the exception to this is the Arpeggiator plugin, since it has an On and Off button? I tried the method above and it didn't work.

It will work with any plug-in, in fact the plug-in on/off is not part of the plug-in itself, but of the host (Logic).

The Arpeggiator needs to be fed notes after you turn it on. If the notes started before you turn on the plug-in, then the Arpeggiator has nothing to arpeggiate. But as long as you feed it MIDI notes, when it's on, you can automate it on and off like any other plug-in.

Oh yes of course. Duh! and Thanks!

Some plugins may cause clicks when turning on/off. Some have a lot of delay, that seems not to be properly implemented. Like Flux Ircam Trax. For this one you cannot automate the bypass, it goes off-time pretty heavily. When that happens try to automate the mix of the plugin.

Automating mix parameter won't work of course for MIDIFX plugins. But they shouldn't cause clicks anyway. They just handle MIDI-data, not audio data.
