Software instrument making blank space when recording (help)

So I am trying to record with my keyboard through musical typing and whenever I press record and hit a note on my keyboard it records it but it creates a blank space behind the first note as well as after the last, I'm super new to Logic if you can't already tell. So how do I make the recording start only when I first press the note and not have these blank spaces that overlap other recording on the same track? Thanks.

It seems you're not recording in real time? Are you recording in step input mode?

Click this link to your signature and add your system information:

• Logic version and sub-version (e.g. Logic 10.0.7)

• OS X version and sub-version (e.g. OS 10.9.3)

• Computer (e.g. MacBook, Mac Pro, iMac)

• Processor (e.g. 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)

• Memory (e.g. 2GB)

• Audio interface manufacturer and model (e.g. Presonus AudioBox USB)

• MIDI Controller manufacturer and model (e.g. M-Audio Axiom Pro 49)

(most of that information can be found by choosing Logic Pro X > About Logic Pro X, and  > About This Mac)

Ok, it just randomly stopped doing it. I'm still curious as to what I was doing. Also I put all that info in my siggy but as of now I'm just fiddling with my keyboard for MIDI Input. What MIDI Controller would you recommend for a tighter than average budget?

I'm still not sure how you're recording exactly. If you do a regular recording, then Logic doesn't insert any blank space, it just records MIDI notes as you play them in real time.

As for a MIDI keyboard recommendation, please post a new thread for that question, in the Music Production & Gear forum, thank you!
