automation conundrum

:?: I can't quite figure this one out. I have numerous tracks set up, and I'm now ready to automate faders for volume and pan. Oddly enough, each time I drag the fader down for one aux track, it drags the volume down of the aux track next to it. If I move over to the right and just try to drag the volume down of the next aux track, the same thing happens to the next track over. None of the tracks are sharing an instrument channel, but each one seems to automate with the track next to it in the mixer view. They don't all move at the same time either, just the one to the right of the track I'm trying to mix. I attached my project, if you have any ideas I would muy muy grateful.

Thanks,

That sounds a little like song corruption to me, so I'm going to skip DL'ing the lso. I have a thought, do you happen to have any of the tracks highlighted or grouped together when you are adjusting volume? Iknow, it's a dumb question, but those are the ones that need to be answered first to get them out of the way. LOL!

Does it happen in any other song file?

Hi,

You seem to have 12 audio instrument objects in your environment that are assigned to Inst 2. That's part of the problem I think. This would certainly confuse my workflow. You only actually need one as your only using one instance of Kontakt.

I'll post a revision to this that you may find easier to work with. Give me a few minutes. Good insomnia activity!

Again without opening your .lso but guessing from the above descriptions ..... if you are using a multi instrument with outputs going to Aux channels, although the midi regions will need to be on Arrange track(s) for that instrument, any automation of volume & pan etc will need to be on the Aux channels.

........ Now I have opened it I can see you have the Auxes on your arrange page. Try your Automation there.

Alan,

Hey, your song put me to sleep! Thanks! Well, it is named "Internment" after all.

There was some wierd stuff going on with this song and I think it was because you were perhaps trying to use copies of the Inst 2 object as tracks and adjusting channelization there. Also, you had duplicate aux objects on a different layer, but they had different names and they were grouped, etc. Duplicating an object, then renaming it doesn't make it unique. It's still the same object.

Here's the song revised so that your MIDI is all on MIDI tracks which point to your Kontakt MIDI multi-instrument, which then feeds Instrument 2 (Kontakt), which in turn feeds your auxes with audio.

Be sure to keep the Inst 2 objects MIDI channel set to All. I renamed it "K2 Instrument" to avoid confusion.

Try this out. I think you'll find this much easier to work with.

Oh, thanks again for curing my insomnia!
