Sculpture
In the past I did the headphone mix with an extra hardware mixer but I had to change it and do it in Logic 10.1 now. However, I did a set up this way. I created an AUX37 which runs to output 3-4. Now I’m in let’s say Audio channel 1 and have inserted the Aux37 in the audio channels sends and set this to pre-fader. This way the regular channel fader for volume works in my monitor mix and the round knob (inserted AUX37 pre-fader) controls the volume in the headphone mix for the talent. Now I have the problem that the regular PAN knob works in my monitor mix, as it should be, but of course not in my headphone mix. I need to be able to have an additional PAN in the headphone mix too so that I can turn the already recorded first background vocal on a new audio channel to the left side as a guide track and then the talent should be able to hear herself on the right channel. Can anyone explain me how I can set up an extra PAN for the headphone mix?
David Nahmani
You could set the send to Aux 37 to post-pan, and then the pan knob on the vocal channel strip would affect the headphone mix. You can still have independent levels for the mix and the headphone mix. The only downside is that changing the position of the fader on the vocal channel strip would affect both the main mix and the headphone mix. If you want the panning to be different on the headphone mix than it is on the main mix, then you'd have to send the vocal channel strip to another Aux, say Aux 38, adjust the pan on that Aux channel strip and set that Aux (38)'s output to the bus that leads to Aux 37. Sculpture
Thank you, I chose the 2nd route. Had someone to come in to help me because I needed some Aux workarounds to have the music centered, the guide backing vocal track on the left side, and the live vocal track on the right side. And then again the lead vocal recording centered.
