Crackling coming from monitors and even in headset

I am hoping someone can help.

I am using Logic Pro and Apogee Duet through and IMAC. For some reason during playback and recording I am hearing a terrible crackling noise over everything. I have had the set up for like 2 years and have it used it much, as I am busy doing other things, but I would like to begin playing and recording again. This is really upsetting me because I cannot get a clean sound at all, either with older stuff I have recorded or even recording new things.

I have googled it and it seems that many people have had this issue, but I am not understanding how to make it stop.

Please please please help guys if you can.

Hello and welcome to Logic Pro Help,

Click this link to your signature and add your system information:

• Logic version and sub-version (e.g. Logic 10.0.7)

• OS X version and sub-version (e.g. OS 10.9.3)

• Computer (e.g. MacBook, Mac Pro, iMac)

• Processor (e.g. 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)

• Memory (e.g. 2GB)

• Audio interface manufacturer and model (e.g. Presonus AudioBox USB)

• MIDI Controller manufacturer and model (e.g. M-Audio Axiom Pro 49)

(most of that information can be found by choosing Logic Pro X > About Logic Pro X, and  > About This Mac)

Thanks.

J.

Though I agree with Steve that the signature listings are important and should be provided, I also noticed that only about 1 in 1000 new posters does it beforehand, without extra request in their first topic.

I have this text (feel free to copy it) in a textedit document, ready to copy-paste. It's an "extended" version of the ones the moderators use:

click this link to your signature* and add your system information:

(*note: whoever clicks that link will get to their own signature)

• Logic version and sub-version (e.g. Logic 10.0.7)

• OS X version and sub-version (e.g. OS 10.9.5)

• Computer (e.g. MacBook, Mac Pro, iMac)

• Processor (e.g. 2.6 GHz Intel i5)

• Memory (e.g. 8 GB)

• Audio interface manufacturer and model (e.g. Presonus AudioBox USB)

* relevant external disks or secondairy internal disks

(most of that information can be found by choosing Logic Pro X > About Logic Pro X, and  > About This Mac)

Please also list whatever you own of those:

• MIDI controller(s), (hardware) synths, soundmodules, other MIDI-using hardware, external processing equipment, etc.

Honestly, I have no idea what the I/O buffer is?

I am saving my stuff just on my computer. I am just flabbergasted by the crackling. It worked for very long time without it. It then would come intermittently and I would just restart my computer and then it would go away. Now I can get it to play at all without the sound.

Honestly I am just a musician and do not know much about recording and the setups of my little studio.
