Bounce alters sounds of tracks

Hi Forum, I've gotten some odd behavior bouncing tracks in 7.2.3 on both an Intel iMac and a dual-proc G5, both running 10.4.9. Listening to the song pre-Bounce, the high end is nice and airy. Post-Bounce yields a somewhat muffled overall sound, plus a reduced stereo field. I've made sure there's nothing inserted on the playback channel. Is this pilot error? Has anyone else experienced different post-Bounce sound quality? Thanks for any thoughts.
