moonboy
I just opened a project and the esx instruments have ALL been randomly reassigned to different channels. For instance the piano now plays a vibraphone, the banjo now plays a classical percussion kit. The regions are all still on the correct channels and haven't moved. The reassigning of sounds is random - eg. a channel will now have the instrument from 3 channels below it, or 6 above, etc - so it hasn't all just moved one channel over, it's very random. But not a single one plays the correct instrument now! I was working on this arrangement a few hours ago and didn't notice anything that I could have done to do this at one touch, but I did save before shutting down, so I can't look through the undo history. It's not a huge project so it's not a disaster but I'm very curious as to what could make this happen! Just did a screen recording to demonstrate, but can't upload a .mov on here. Eriksimon
You may be able to upload the .mov if you compress (.zip) it first. Otherwise, upload it to YouTube and post a link - that is the most common way to show vids on the forum. Are there any Program Changes in that project? Did it start with a MIDI file, or did you import a MIDI file at some point? What kind of MIDI-sending hardware (e.g. keyboard, control surface, drum pads, wind controller, MIDI guitar etc) do you use? (...and could you add those to your signature?) moonboy
Hi, thanks, zip attatchment worked. There's no MIDI imported from anywhere, it was all created straight into Logic with the built in software instruments. Nothing fancy at all, I'm just mocking up an arrangement for a live show so I haven't got into any production techniques or even added any plugins in this project. I haven't created any program changes at all, knowingly. The only thing I can think of is that sometimes I've had several projects open at the same time (I haven't been copying channels or regions between them, but they are often all open in rehearsals with dancers to get the structure right before the live band comes in). If somehow I copied the channel settings from one project into another without consciously doing so (surely there's not a shortcut for this that you could unwittingly make? I've done it before through the browser and there's several steps to do this)... and hit 'save' without realizing... Anyway it's not a major problem, I've reloaded the sounds, I'm just curious about what happened! logic midi mystery.zip
moonboy
Oh and my only external controller is an evolution MK-461C keyboard. I'll add that to the signature.
Eriksimon
Well, I looked at your video, and all I can do is agree: it is a complete mystery what has happened there. Never seen that before, never encountered it in my five years of foruming. HOWEVER... is there still an UNDO history in the project? That might reveal what has happened, or at least where in the process it has happened.
moonboy
Hi, well thanks for looking into it! I'm mystified too. If it happens again I'll re post something here if I get to the bottom of it. The undo history was blank. Presumably because when you SAVE it clears the undo history. I also tried looking in the project file backups, but all have blank undo histories as well.
