shapingsoundz
Hi all, Newbie here with a quick question or 2. At present i'm a PC user running Reason 7 and Melodyne on a Nvidia maximus config PC, i have an iPad, iPod and iPhone but i have never owned a mac. After watching a number of my tracks mixed and mastered in Logic Pro and liking the work flow i've decided to take the plunge and get myself a mac and logic setup. Space is a premium and as i will still be using my PC for other work i thought the Mac mini would be ideal with its small foot print. The Mac mini i'm looking at buying has Yosemite OS installed but the studio that masters my tracks has mountain lion. So my questions are: 1. Will a Mac mini - i5 2.6ghz with 16mb ram and 1Tb drive be sufficient to run Logic? (approx. 20 tracks and plugins) 2. Will my tracks created on Yosemite be compatible with the studios mountain lion OS setup? I have read soooooo many threads on different forums with conflicting arguments regarding the above questions and i'm still non the wiser so i thought this forum would be the best place to get a decisive answer?! Any help or suggestions would be most appreciative Thanks in advance Rob
volovicg
I am running with a similar configuration as you described. I was going to buy a macpro and frankly glad I didn't spend the extra money as the Mac mini with 16mb and the 1TB solid state drive has never given me a problem and frankly runs very fast. The mini has two internal drive bays and I am actually using 2 1TB internal drives. So you even have room for expansion down the road. They key in my opinion is the solid state drive.....it is worth the extra costs. I bought mine separately and installed it myself
JakobP
I'm running Logic X on a less powerful Mini than the one you're looking at, and it works fine for me. As for question #2, your Logic version shouldn't be higher than the studio's, or your projects probably won't open there, OS version should not matter. Atlas007
...1. Will a Mac mini - i5 2.6ghz with 16mb ram and 1Tb drive be sufficient to run Logic? (approx. 20 tracks and plugins) I use a MacBookPro 17" Unibody (Intel core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM dating from 2007) running similar size projects which requires resource management sometimes depending of the plugins load. The Mini you are looking at is considerably more powerful. My MBP came initially with a 256GB SSD which I changed for a Samsung 840-EVO SSD. As previously mentioned SSD really makes a big difference, especially when dealing with big projects which require samples management. My advice: go for an SSD (Solid State Drive), either pre-installed or that you install yourself (caution: latter option would void your warranty!) 2. Will my tracks created on Yosemite be compatible with the studios mountain lion OS setup? As long you are using the same Logic version (the decimals are important) you should be ok. I would be less sure about 3rd party plugins however.

I upgraded my SSD myself, after my MBP's warranty expired.
