Running plugins from an external hard drive?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of getting a couple new plugins for logic. Im sure you guys know how large some things are such as komplete or waves. But my main issue is, I am running low on space on my SSD. How would i go about running some things straight from an external drive to logic? I was hoping for some sort of method that doesn't involve me moving things around to correct locations every time I want to use them, but rather if I could just plug the hard drive in and it recognizes it immediately. Would love some input. Thanks

Actually the plugins themselves are usually not that big. With Kontakt, or other sample based plugins, their libraries can be huge.

In this case, install the libraries on an external drive, and keep the plugins (component) at the default place. That's what I do. All NI libraries (Kontakt, Battery, 3rd party libraries) are all on my "Sample" drive, along samples and loops. Works like a charm. I wouldn't even know if you can move the components to another place, don't think so.

Do the same with another external drive for the sessions. Those will eat up space in no time. Just keep applications and OS on the internal system drive.
