HAM_Studios
A few of our recordings have suddenly appeared blocky in their waveforms and sound distorted. None of these recordings were meant to sound this way, it just happens randomly. These files were recorded -25 to -12 db. We're recording through a scarlett 18i8. Any help/ideas of what happened or how to fix it? Thanks
Eric Cardenas
A few of our recordings have suddenly appeared blocky in their waveforms That's perfectly normal when zoomed in to the sample level. sound distorted Must be something else causing this anomaly. Click this link to your signature and add your system information: • Logic version and sub-version (e.g. Logic Pro X 10.1.1) • OS X version and sub-version (e.g. OS X Yosemite 10.10.4) • Computer (e.g. MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, iMac) • Processor (e.g. 2.2 GHz Intel i7) • Memory (e.g. 8GB) • Audio interface manufacturer and model (e.g. RME Babyface Pro) (most of that information can be found by choosing Logic Pro X > About Logic Pro X, and > About This Mac)
stardustmedia
A few of our recordings have suddenly appeared blocky in their waveforms ... What Eric already said ... and sound distorted. None of these recordings were meant to sound this way, it just happens randomly. These files were recorded -25 to -12 db. We're recording through a scarlett 18i8. Any help/ideas of what happened or how to fix it? Distortion can happen all the way already from the mic itself (signal too loud, mic too sensible), cables, preamp with wrong settings, using the wrong inputs (e.g. line level into mic input). And often people forget this: Is the recorded source itself NOT DISTORTED, e.g. broken synth, or one of its outputs, instrument with multioutputs where the monitor'ed signal is clean but the recorded output has an effect on it I can imagine many situations, I experienced myself
HAM_Studios
Hey guys thanks for your thoughts but when i say they sound distorted I feel I should clarify: When we first played them back the playback was fine, no audio distortion at all. When we played it back a few days later it sounded weird. This has happened on a few files and the instruments recorded were both mic'd, in the first scenario the audio was going through a preamp however in the second scenario it was straight into the interface. I'll check in tomorrow to see if the audio is still playing up. If it is I'll try to bounce it so you can see what I'm talking about.
stardustmedia
Broken loudspeaker? Or loudspeaker cables broken? Have you removed ALL plugins from the session?
