maintitle
Does anyone know if it is possible to put a list of program names (instead of just numbers) in a regular midi instrument, like you can with a multi-instrument? I can't find a way to do it and am assuming it's not possible even though you can send program changes from a regular midi instument. Am I just missing something? Justin-Ch
No, I don't think you can. This is annoying because most external hardware I use isn't multi-timbral.

Justin-Ch
Obviously there is no reason you can't use a multi instrument to take advantage of this program name feature, although I find the External Instrument plug-in more convenient than setting up these particular Objects in the Environment. David Nahmani
Why not use a multi-instrument with just a single channel initialized? Then you can use the program names, and you have a mono-timbral instrument representation.
