Search Zero Crossings in Arrange

Can anyone tell me what the "Search Zero Crossings" in the local audio menu in the arrange window does. I have used the scissors, marque and even dragged regions around to see if this selects cuts or moves to a zero crossing. I have even also check the Audio window and Sample Editor "Search Zero Crossings" options and it doesn't seem to do anything. I can't find anything in the manual either.

When I first moved from Cubase VST to Cubase SX3 about 5 years ago, I checked the pref for Zero Crossing. I understood what it did from some other apps.

However after working in SX3 for a couple months I was having problems.

My 1 or 2 bar regions of audio, placed (repeated) one after the other would fall off beat after a few minutes into the tracks. I could not understand what was happening.

So I found my regions (audio).. were not perfect bar lengths. IT took me a while to realize that the pref setting was causing my regions to be "not perfect length"... and would therfore not stay on the perfect timing grid of the music.

So, every time I cut a region or bounced at file from Reason ... or anything, it would not work properly the way I built grooves.

So I just turned it off, and worked w/o it. I dealt with clicks with tiny fades.

Now in Logic Pro, I wanted to experiment with this setting to see if I would have the same issue. I guess I would.

I'm not sure why it's not working for you.

I wanted to know other peoples uses & experiences with using this set to on.

Thanks
