very strange midi routing

this my seem like a very strange and totally of topic question, but does anybody know of a way to set up midi keyboards so that they can also control basic finder functions, applescripts and other applications? like the F keys, only midi?

many thanks

well anything really!

for example, when working with multiple screens, it would be cool and time saving to regroup all your brightness adjusters onto one outboard panel of knobs or faders. say those of a ReMOTE.

and how about using the C1 key to check mail or open Safari.

when you consider the fact that you can script apps, being able to control those scripts with the twist of a knob suddenly becomes very appealing, and especially for those long, drawn out work sessions that we so love and truly hate ;)

any ideas?

OK basically the idea is this: why wouldn't we give a use to this pretty MIDI keyboard lying on the desk while one is not using Logic. When in Logic it works fine, but when surfing the web, for instance, all this desk real estate seams wasted !

Basically a little hack which would listen for MIDI keyboard strokes while in the Finder etc, and launch little apple-scripts accordingly... E.g. the first piano key could be "check my mail" the second "pause iTunes" etc..

Wouldn't that be totally wicked ?

The only thing is I have to idea how to intercept an action (or key stroke) coming from the keyboard when Logic is closed...

Thanks in advance.
