Copying and pasting Automation on same track

Okay So I've searched this site a bit for answers and watched youtube tutorials but I still haven't quite figured this out. I have an audio track that needs to be muted in a few parts of each chorus. I want it to be the exact same length of mute automation for each one. So once I create the first mute automation, how do I copy it and paste it in the correct spots? Every time I copy and past it doesn't work and it cuts the track or something. Please and thanks. I'm using Logic pro x

Hi,

Hold down Control-Shift to get the Automation Select tool to come up. Use it to select the mute automation points you want to copy then do Command-C, place the playhead wherever you want to paste the automation and paste (Command-V).

Okay, I did exactly what you said and followed the clip you posted and nothing happened. When I paste nothing happens, I even tried it on the edit menu and it still didn't work. I also don't know how to set the playhead the way you did, is that why it didn't work? thanks

Hi,

How you place the playhead is not important for this to work. I personally like using the "Go to position..." command (you can look it up in your key commands window).

So, did you use the Automation Select tool to actually select the automation before hitting Command-C (Copy)?

Yes, I did it the way you said, and also selected it manually as well.

I personally prefer to bring it into its own automation lane. Select it and alt drag it.. You will see your automation points get a dark border around what will be copied and pasted, sometimes the white lines and dots extend beyond that border but all you need to worry about is what is in the darkened part of the lane when you do this.

Hey thanks! So far this is the closest to what I'm trying to do, this might do the trick! Appreciate the help

Okay so the copy and pasting aspect is pretty much solved, now I'm just left with how to place it where it needs to be. When I use Reason it's really easy because I just look at the grid and can pinpoint exactly where to place something. On logic the grid is so in depth that it seems impossible to be exact. I can get the mute automation close to where I want it by ear, but It could still be off by a tiny fraction. Thanks
