Samuel J
Hey guys This is my first post so please excuse me if I've not followed the posting rules! After updating to 10.2.1 yesterday a major problem has developed: When I close any of the Logic plugin windows (after say adding a compressor) Logic crashes completely and I have to restart the program. Is anybody also experiencing this? I appreciate any help! Many thanks!
Jordi Torres
Welcome to Logic Pro Help, I've moved your post out of that other thread. This way you'll have better chances of being seen and helped. J.
Marcus Aurelius
I am also experiencing frequent crashes with 10.2.1 when closing plugins, opening plugins, or dragging plugins to a different slots. I used to be able to do this with no problems even while a project is playing. With the new version, the program crashes 20 times a day or more even if project is stopped. Thus far I can discern no pattern. Seems to happen with plugins from various manufacturers.
Atlas007
What are your system's specs? Which plugins are involved? Any automation involved in your project(s)? Does it occur with fresh new project (create within LPX 10.2.1) as well?
Marcus Aurelius
System specs: Retina MacBook Pro 15” (late 2013), 2.3GHz Intel Core i& 16GB RAM OS: 10.10.5 Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048MB Logic 10.2.1 I'll start keeping a list of which plugins cause the crashes. Some that I remember: - Waves SSL E Channel, G Channel, Compressor - Waves VEQ - PSP TripleMeters I have not tried with fresh projects; I always start my projects from my templates. No automation yet in the current project.
jonparadise
Have you renamed any of your plugins? Logic doesn't seem to like certain characters, all of the plugins I'd renamed crashed when I tried to close them. Once I removed the '.' from the names it fixed it. I did indeed rename many of the plugins, but with no special characters (unless spaces are problematic?).
jonparadise
I'm not quite sure what the problem characters/punctuation are exactly, I also removed a space at the same, time, so it could have been that too!
Marcus Aurelius
I'm not quite sure what the problem characters/punctuation are exactly, I also removed a space at the same, time, so it could have been that too! I will try that if the problem continues...first, I tried completely and cleanly uninstalling the Waves plugins, and reinstalling, since those are giving the most problems (maybe only because those are my main third-party plugins though, and not necessarily due to any particular technical fault of Waves). I also ran Onyx, the maintenance utility, which rebuilt directories and did various other house-cleaning. Will report back whether stability is better. des99
I did indeed rename many of the plugins, but with no special characters (unless spaces are problematic?). That is most likely the culprit. It seems there are a few issues with the new renaming feature, causing crashes - weird characters, names too long - it is just rather too flaky to use. I suggest removing custom names for now, and seeing whether the crashes go away.
fisherking
this happened to me (i posted on this forum about "vocal transformer crashing logic X". it's definitely the custom name...once i shorted the name (in this case, from VOC TRNSFRMR to VOC TRNS, the crashes stopped. no need to remove all custom names, just shorten them (if that particular plugin crashes on closing it's window). So you found that spaces were not the issue, but the name length? Did you use the same (short) custom name for both columns of a given plugin, or only in the short name column? Thank you... Eric Cardenas
Here's the bug: Custom names for plug-ins crashes Logic [bUG]
Marcus Aurelius
So we should try to determine (or perhaps someone has already) what the crash triggers are in renaming. In the meanwhile I may just revert all the names back to their defaults. ...and I will submit a bug report to Apple.
simon.a.billington
Yeah I have this issue too. Suspecting it could also be hyphens (-) that might play a part in crashing Logic. Its just text, stored in a string, not sure why symbols should be causing this kind of miss at all. It seems very odd.
Holger Lagerfeldt
Remove all your custom plug-in names, both the "custom" and "short" fields. Restart. viewtopic.php?f=42&t=122514
simon.a.billington
Yeah I've so far figured it runs okay with only short names

Restart. viewtopic.php?f=42&t=122514 Yes, I did that, and the crashes have stopped. It's a shame, because this is a nice feature, but it is clearly not ready for prime time.
