cmscss
Hi There, I'm not 100% sure what I should be searching for so don't understand the answers I've found sorry. I have an MPD18 that I would like mapped to logic's kits. It's setup and while there's a sound on every pad, there is no kick. Questions: - Should the MPD18 just work (are there standard mappings for drum kits)? - If not, is there a mapping I can download to map the MPD18 to the full kit? - If not, how do you go about mapping the MPD18 to a kit? BTW, the MPD18 came with editor software but the windows in that app are grey (see attached) I've found AKAI support to be completely useless in solving that issue so hopefully I don't need it to map the pads properly. Any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated. Cheers Ben MPD18 Editor Software
cmscss
So have found various setup guides for MPD and MPK series controllers but they talk about an LCD screen on the device which mine doesn't have (the MPD18 is fairly basic). Is it possible to set things up so that the MPD18 controls drums and my AxiomPro controls everything else? The AxiomPro just seems to work (even the pads find the kick out-of-the-box). Sorry, I don't understand if stuff is supposed to just work (like the Axiom) or if you have to setup each pad individually - so I'm not 100% sure what I should be searching for. Any help or points in the right direction would be much appreciated. Cheers
David Nahmani
Is it possible to set things up so that the MPD18 controls drums and my AxiomPro controls everything else? Yes, using different MIDI channels for both devices: LPX Control Multiple Instruments on Different MIDI Channels As for assigning the pads... pads trigger MIDI notes, and in Logic, each instrument has its own map of which MIDI note triggers which sound/sample. You can either edit, on your MPD18, what MIDI note each pad sends (for example setting a pad to send a C1 MIDI Note will trigger a kick drum with most drum patches), OR you can, in Logic, use a mapped instrument (in the environment) to remap the notes sent by your device to another note, in order to get what you want. The former solution is much more elegant, but it does require you editing the data being sent by the pads from the MPD, for which you may need access to that editor window that shows up blank on your screen... cmscss
Had to upgrade to OSX 10.10 before the MPD18 Editor software worked and it wouldn't trigger anything in logic until the MPC preset was loaded. Thanks heaps for you help - much appreciated. Is there a way I should mark threads as solved? Cheers Ben
