Logic Vs Mainstage For Live...Midi Keyboard Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hi folks

You may remember my earlier thread about exporting Logic EXS24 sounds to external hardware. Anyway, it seems there aren't any options that will cover all plugin synths in one box so i'm considering using a Mac for live synths.

I've heard that Mainstage can be unstable so i'm thinking about just running Logic live with all my Synths ready to be soloed by an external controller.

Have you guys got any suggestions for a good keyboard midi controller that could pull this off? Apart from the simple task of sending PC messages to Logic to treat each synth/instrument as a preset, i'm looking for a keyboard that also has pads that could be assigned to specific keys in the EXS24 sampler, while assigning the main keyboard to one or more instruments at a time. Ideally, i would like to be able to assign some instruments to different midi channels and use multiple keyboards for quick access to the sounds.

Any info would be much appreciated..especially if you think Mainstage would be more suitable!

I am a big fan of the Novation SL keyboards, good action and very flexible whether you use Automap or not. I prefer using Logic on stage, MainStage doesn't work for what I need plus I know Logic so well and don't want to spend the time learning a new thing. Honestly, Ableton Live is the best choice, but I don't want to learn that, either. Here is a thread about how using Logic live.
