fretnoise
I have lost all my key commands. I searched the thread on Recover Key Commands where David described that if you switch from the Pro Tools set to the U.S. set all your key commands will be gone and that is what I have done. I'm wondering if David or anyone can tell me how to get them back. I have not quit Logic so I believe it's possible? Thanks, Jon
Eric Cardenas
Do you use Time Machine or integer backup system? Make sure to export your custom command set every once in a while to avoid these issues.
fretnoise
I normally make a clone of my system and other drives. But I just got this computer and upgraded the OS and just got Logic X so while still getting comfortable with the new system I wasn't yet comfortable erasing my old system on the clone drive. I wonder if the key commands might be saved in the old OS in the library? They would have been from Logic 9.
Eric Cardenas
Yes they are. The ket commands are saved in: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.logic.pro.plist
fretnoise
It's not in the OS library so I guess it's in the user library? is there a way to access the user library without restarting from that disk?
Eric Cardenas
In finder, hold down the option key while navigating through the Go menu.
fretnoise
But that only brings up the user library for the OS I'm currently using, I guess I'll have to start up from the clone disk and do it from there. I'm just reluctant to quit Logic because I read in another thread where David described my exact scenario and he told the user that as long as he hasn't quit the current Logic session he could show him how to restore them. But that users scenario was not the same as this one.
Eric Cardenas
I see. You don't have to boot up from the clone drive. Navigate to into the clone drive and via: [CLONE VOLUME]/Users/[YOUR USER]/Library/Preferences/com.apple.logic.pro.plist
fretnoise
Well, this is just another case where Apple can be so infuriating, the library doesn't show up in the user folder even when accessing it externally, I think the only way to access it is going to be restart from the clone and then use the usual option/go procedure. I guess I'll just have to risk quitting Logic and do it. Thanks for all your help, I'll report back with the results.
fretnoise
Well, I learned on the Apple site that you can access the user library on an external drive by going to the user folder and from the menu select go/go to folder/write in 'library'. But after getting the old preferences file it hasn't restored my key commands. Oh well. I didn't know you can export/save them. That will definitely be my future practice. You should be able to access any folder as long as they aren't encrypted and you have the correct permission.

If you have the file you need you will have to place it under your preferences. Quit Logic and remove this preference: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.logic10.plist Launch Logic Pro X again and you will now be able to have your old commands. fretnoise
YES! Success! One thing though, you have to restart the computer 'before' you restart Logic or it won't work. Man what an adventure, thanks for all your help!
Eric Cardenas
you have to restart the computer 'before' you restart Logic or it won't work. I don't think that's the case. Did you quit Logic with Command - Q or did you just close the window? It doesn't really matter... I'm glad you got it working.
