volovicg
Can you SMPTE Lock a region that has Flex turned on? With the elimination of the detect tempo feature enabling "follow tempo & pitch" ( 10.2.1), I am trying to use Flextime instead. The specifics are I have a region of audio imported externally, I turn on flex, and create multiple tempo events. It works and sounds perfect. Now I want to replace the multiple tempo events with just one tempo. So I lock the region and create a new tempo set ( however the region adjusts based on this new constant tempo) - didn't expect that result. Eric Cardenas
I'm not sure what you mean. You can just SMTE lock the region exactly as you would otherwise.
volovicg
When I SMPTE lock the region ( flex enabled) and adjust the tempo. The speed of the region changes to match the tempo. ( see below) As you can see with the SMPTE view enabled that the region end is changing as the tempo changes hence the speed of the song ( which BTW I can hear changing as I change tempo). I thought when you locked a region it stayed fixed in time regardless what the tempo is changed to and seems to work with the follow tempo mechanism, but not so with flex. What am I missing here? Does flex over-ride SMPTE locking?

( see below) That's how flex works. It doesn't have anything to do with SMPTE. I thought when you locked a region it stayed fixed in time regardless what the tempo is changed to and seems to work with the follow tempo mechanism, but not so with flex. What am I missing here? Does flex over-ride SMPTE locking? SMPTE lock is locking your region start to real time. Move your region to 12 seconds instead of starting at 0 to see. volovicg
Yes - I see and actually "follow tempo works" the same way ( I just thought it didn't - but tested it - and it does). I believed it locked the whole region - not just the start. Edit: So if I have a several regions on different tracks with flex enabled. And I want to change the global tempo of the project without making any tempo changes to the regions with flex enabled. What is the process to do that? ( without bouncing ) or is turning flex off first the only way?
Eric Cardenas
Yes. If you want to keep everything so that it doesn't follow your tempo you can bounce the region in place.
