KJD
Hi all! Here's my first completed mix- tracking, mixing and master everything myself instead of going to a pro studio. I like the sound, but having a difficult time creating a "bass" tone throughout. I do have a bass track, it's just that the entire mix really sounds a bit TOO bright, and a bit tinny. Not sure what I need to do or try to adjust. Any suggestions? Thanks! KJD
angelonyc
Very Nice song.. You might bring the ukulele down a bit.. Great singing. Didn't sound too bright on Genelec 8040's.. There's not enough bottom.. Not knowing how you recorded it makes it a bit difficult to discuss.. Ukulele's don't really have much bottom.. Basically bring the ukulele softer, A little more attention to organ, So I definitely concentrate on bass, and kick drum. Bass needs to come up.. is it on it's own track?. Kick drum too. Nice arrangement.. A good arrangement makes mixing and mastering a song a lot easier.. Selecting the right instruments, and range they play in, helps a great deal. A mixing trick is to get a good balance, raise listening level up. Does balance remain.. Make subtle change if necessary.. Then lower volume to very soft.. At this point, it's 75% ukulele, bring Bass, and kick up.. Perhaps a slight notch in ukulele.. Really get to know your speakers, and have another monitoring system. (your iPod).. and some decent headphones.. The best mix will be compromise between the different sound systems.. so it sounds fairly uniform.. Sticks a bit loud.. Some more obvious panning, will open things up.. Great vocals, (echo effect in section).. Riding ukulele volume up/down so piano solo stands out a bit more.. Organ is pretty much lost.. Very good work though.
KJD
Thanks so much for your suggestions! This helps a great deal. I've also just learned about using the sub bass plug in and other dynamics in the bottom end of things, so I have a lot to play with! Thanks again, KJD
