My Gawd I Can Never Figure This Out!!!

I have a MIDI track that is already recorded. I want the MIDI data that is on that track to trigger the internal sounds of my (external) Korg M-50 so I can then create an audio track to record the sounds from the Korg M-50. Every time I try to set this up I can never remember how to do it and I get frustrated and confused. i know the solution is simple for others but not for me. Please help.

1. On the MIDI track, open the Inspector and look on the left for the midi PORT thats connected to the Korg and set the channel correctly as well

2. Add an audio track and select the inputs from your Korg In the inspector for your Audio track, click on the Mono or Stereo button then go to the input tab and select the inputs your using for the Korg. Record and Monitor enable the audio track and hit record

Connect up your Korg so that Logic can record the midi portion of what you play. I don't know if you do this with a midi cable or a thru USB. So if Logic can record the midi, Logic should be able to send the midi back to your Korg.

So my question is how do you have the midi connections set up?

The Korg is connected to Logic via USB. If I create an "External MIDI" track for the Korg, hit record, and then play the keys of the Korg then it will record the MIDI notes coming from the Korg into Logic. But that is not my problem........ The problem I am having is that I already have a different track ( #19) recorded in MIDI. I want to play back track #19 and have it trigger the internal sounds of the Korg so I can route the output of the Korg into a "Audio Track" or "External MIDI" track. I'm not sure if my end result will be an "Audio Track" or an "External MIDI" track but the problem I am having is that I can't seem to get Track #19 to play the internal sounds of the Korg for me. The part that bugs me is that I know the solution is simple and I have done this many times before in the past. But I am more of a casual user of LPX and I experience long periods of time between sessions and tend to forget this procedure. I apologize in advance for my frustration on this.

To get midi to your Korg its nothing more than selecting the output destination for the mid going to the Korg. You can then create an AUDIO track to monitor and or record the inputs.

Heres another method BTW:

I think I know what you are wanting now. Try this:

1. Track/ New Software Instrument Track

2. In the Inspector click in the instrument field right underneath the MIXi FX box

3. Click the arrows in that box and go down to Utility then external Instrument then mono or stereo

4. Select the MIDI destination and the Inputs from that box

5. Add and AUDIO track, mono or stereo and select your input for that track and record enable it.

6. Record the audio track which is the Korg now coming into that audio track being triggered by the midi track

MANUAL:

Connect the output (or output pair) of your MIDI module with an input (or input pair) on your audio interface.

Note: These can be either analog or digital connections if your audio interface and MIDI sound generator are equipped with either, or both.

Create an instrument channel strip.

Click the Instrument slot, then choose External Instrument from the pop-up menu.

Choose the MIDI Destination from the pop-up menu in the External Instrument window.

Choose the input (of your audio interface) that the MIDI sound generator is connected to from the Input pop-up menu.

Adjust the Input Volume, if necessary.

Insert any required effects into the Insert slots of the channel strip (or channel strips, if you are using multiple External Instrument instances with a multitimbral sound source).

You can also route the instrument channel strip to aux channel strips, if you want to use send effects.

I am completely understanding the instructions you are giving me. I've gone over them several times. However, it is still not working. Maybe I have something set up wrong with the Korg. I don't know..........
