3viTate
Hello. I was hoping very much someone could help me troubleshoot this problem... When I play my guitar through my m-audio interface into logic, I cannot hear amps and other effects when I enable them as I am playing (although I can hear and record the guitar just fine as it is). I am able to record regular audio with my guitar and then go back and apply guitar amps or other synths and effects and such AFTER it is recorded, but I need to be able to hear the effects AS i am playing and recording. I am not sure what could be causing this problem. I am hearing and recording my guitar fine through this interface and then applying the amps and such afterwards, but I know I should be able to hear the amps and effects as I am playing. Help! Thank you very much, Justin LaRose
3viTate
This has a direct relation to the Apple Pro Training Series book by David Nahmani; Exploring the Interface and Working with Real Instruments. Lesson 2: Recording Audio "You can now hear your guitar processed through Amp Designer. It sounds like a guitar plugged into a guitar amp, and recorded by a microphone in front of the amp’s speaker cabinet. Feel free to spend a few minutes exploring various settings and tweaking the amp’s knobs until you’re happy with your sound." I can hear my guitar and the way I adjust my interface and the guitar through my headphones in the output, but I cannot hear the amp as I am playing, I can only apply it afterwards
Eric Cardenas
Turn on Software monitoring in Logic and turn off direct monitoring from your interface.
3viTate
Thank you very much Eric. My problem is still not solved, although. I was not sure how to get into the software monitoring you refer to, so I did a search of this forum and found this... viewtopic.php?p=262200 And so I went there and there isn't any option to turn off direct monitoring from my interface... I attached a photograph of where I am as well. Could you please point me in the right direction? I've looked all over the preferences and can't find it. Thanks again, Justin
JakobP
I think you'll find the checkbox for software monitoring under the "General" tab. The "direct monitoring" has to be disabled on your m-audio interface, not anywhere in Logic.
3viTate
Thank you. I did not see anything labeled as Software Monitoring anywhere in the General section. If someone could please help me to find this, that would be helpful. It is possible my interface isn't working correctly, as it is a 8 year old M-Audio I borrowed from a friend. I would like to rule out that it's not a software issue, although, before I go buy a new interface. I am going to check the user manual to the interface I have, although there are fairly few buttons and I feel fairly confident i've tried every possible different combination. JakobP
Turn the Mix-button on your interface fully to the right. Then enable software monitoring here:
3viTate
Thanks. When I turn the mix button fully to the right, I hear no sound coming through my headphones... Do you think this could be a hardware issue? Software monitoring is enabled (and previously was)
3viTate
I think that my interface might be messed up. I did not touch any of the factory settings and so it should be working fine on the software side, everything is enabled. When I turn my mix button fully to the right I am unable to hear anything out. I am going to go see if I have this same problem with a new interface tomorrow at the store, at which case if i have the same problem i will be truly lost. triplets
I would avoid M-audio interfaces. They never play nice with Logic.
3viTate
What would you recommend? At this point I am going to just bring my computer to guitar center and test out an interface to see if it's a hardware issue, tomorrow. My friend said that sometimes you had to turn the gain up to get a single so I think it might be a hardware problem, a circuitry gone haywire, I'm pretty confident I have followed the advice of the kind ones before me and my software is formulated correctly. triplets
Focusrite is a good choice. Presonus and Motu also.
3viTate
Alright cool, thanks. I am going to go buy something from guitar center today. I might return it though because I am kinda leaning towards the apogee one because it has so much functionality for a bedroom studio.
triplets
The Apogee One is a good interface, but it has little functionality for what you're paying. I'd rather get the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 instead.
3viTate
Alright I'll look into that. I was thinking because of the quality microphone, turning my iPad into a field mic to record wherever would be pretty awesome, along with an interface. Thanks for the advice. I am getting ready to head to guitar center to check interfaces and synths.
