Wheel of Death when attempting simple tasks (solved)

I've had Logic for a month now. I'm a live engineer really but I wanted to mix some multitracks, record some of my own stuff. I'm trying to mix a project thats 32 tracks at 44.1 16bit. I can't make adjustments to plugins without getting the disk error message. Starting playback results in 10-15 seconds of spinning beach ball then 30 seconds of audio if I'm lucky then. The disk error message. My computer is an early 2012 MB pro, 8gig of ram, 2.g ghz i5. My interface is a saffire Pro 24.

I am using the internal drive to stream audio of which is the 5400rpm standard mac drive. I'm so frustrated currently. Surely this project should be easy for my machine. even without an external drive. I'm running 2 instances of space designer and a delay plugin on the busses a bit of parallel compression and most of the channels have the gain plugin and the EQ inserted.

I've verified the disk, disabled anti virus, repaired disk etc wifi is off. All my Plugins are legitimate although I have downloaded some of the popular free ones. Any more suggestions or ideas how I could repair this would be much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to Logic Pro Help.

Click this link to your signature and add your system information:

• Logic version and sub-version (e.g. Logic Pro X 10.2.1)

• OS X version and sub-version (e.g. OS X El Capitan 10.11.3)

• Computer (e.g. MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, iMac)

• Processor (e.g. 2.2 GHz Intel i7)

• Memory (e.g. 8GB)

• Audio interface manufacturer and model (e.g. RME Babyface Pro)

(most of that information can be found by choosing Logic Pro X > About Logic Pro X, and  > About This Mac)

That does not sound good at all!

How much space do you have free on the system drive?

Plug-ins should not matter in this case. A disk error is when streaming audio.

There might be something wrong with the disk itself.

Most likely, getting an SSD drive (streaming audio on a system mecanical hd as slow as 5400rpm is calling for trouble) and more RAM (8GB could be insufficiant, depending of the project type/size, hindering even further your hd performance) should help improve ifnot solve your situation...

Also, managing audio routing (inside Logic) could help. Here is a link wich could address your issue.

Thanks for the warm welcome and helpful replies. I just deleted a load of stuff so I'm using about 150gb of the available space total. I use the song I'm mixing to help with my workflow/try stuff out.

My workflow is fairly economical I basically just use logic as a simple console really reverbs/ddl on sends some compression on sends/Sub groups very little compression on channels themselves. Would an external FW/Thunderbolt drive for my audio files help or would it be better to get an internal ssd now. 8 Gig of ram is currently the max I can install. I also get a cpu overload message some times as well.

This has only become an issue today I would occasionally get the cpu overload message when using a lot of automation. But i haven't even got that far in my mix today. According to the disk utility everything checks out ok formatting is correct etc.

So I managed to get this back to normal by deleting my previous projects with the same audio files in them. And starting again. A definite case of pilot error. I have a lacie 7200rpm FW drive on the way anyway now. So hopefully shouldn't encounter any major problems in the future.
