Ken Nielsen
I used to have this under control, or so I thought, but after about a year of not using Logic Pro 9 I wanted to record guitar through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I plugged in the guitar and the Scarlett shows input by the ring around the plug glowing when I strike a chord, so that much is okay. Next, Logic Pro recognizes that the Scarlett is the input device and even knows it is plugged in. Past that point, I've followed all of the step by step instructions I gathered from David's book I keep nearby... volume up, input 1, track not muted, audio track... I'm beside myself, volume on guitar, Scarlett, and mixer are all turned up - no signal... What on earth could I be missing besides my mind? I hope someone can help me overcome this problem.... David Nahmani
Do you see any signal on the meter of the audio channel strip used to record the guitar, it's just not transferring to the Output channel strip? In that case, make sure you also have that pesky preference (Logic Pro X > Preferences > Audio > General: "Input monitoring only for focused track, and record-enabled tracks" turned OFF? Ken Nielsen
There is no signal on the meter of the audio channel strip used to record the guitar, mute is off, record is on. I'm using Logic Pro 9 and don't see the choices you mentioned in Preferences > Audio > General. There is only a "plug-in latency compensation" that can be set to off but not sure if that has anything to do with this. Really puzzled by this one as it was working great, last year, and no changes in this department. The Scarlett shows up, I've set that in the Audio panel on the Mac also... so everything looks clear, but no signal showing anywhere.
Ken Nielsen
I hear this is the first, most important thing for anyone working in audio, that there is no problem getting sound... I know I should check all of my connections and those seem to be fine also. Having Logic Pro recognize the Scarlett and having a signal indicated on the front panel of that is puzzling also. I've played with all knobs to make sure everything is on and turned up half-way so... I'm stumped.
Ken Nielsen
Do I need to upgrade to Logic Pro X? Would that be a better choice to make set-up easier?
Atlas007
Could you post a screen capture of the Arrange window with the inspector of the used audio track selected?
JakobP
Sorry, didn't see this mentioned earlier, but do you have software monitoring enabled in preferences ?
Ken Nielsen
Software Monitoring is checked in Preferences. Here is the screen which is just one track so I can see if I can get this working...
David Nahmani
Nevermind, my instructions were for Logic Pro X. So.... have you tried clicking the "I" button on the track header? You shouldn't have to, but at this point... Also are you 100% sure you're connected to input 1? Have you tried input 2?
Ken Nielsen
I've tried the 'i' button and also track 2. At this point it has to be something so obvious I can't see it... like 'did you turn your computer on?' or 'did you pay your electric bill?' Anyway. I'm going to shut everything down and meditate now, then restart the whole system and try building a new file from scratch...
Ken Nielsen
Same situation even after shut down and new file... all quiet, no signal...
David Nahmani
Is there a Mix/Inst switch on your interface?
Ken Nielsen
There is a line/Inst(rument) switch by each input but I've fiddled with every switch over and over today... after fussing with this for 5 hours now, I'm going to call it a night and try again tomorrow. I tried recording in Garage Band and in the waveform editor Adobe Audition and same thing... nothing is getting to any of the tracks I created. Funny that the software recognizes the interface and the interface responds to signal from the guitar but nothing goes to a audio track. I've switched cables, pulled and re-inserted plugs... tomorrow is another day. I may have to call a tech from Guitar Center to come over and see if he can get it running. Ken Nielsen
I can hear the guitar coming through the interface monitor through headphones... I believe the electronics are working okay, it's just some switch somewhere... not letting a signal through... I'm done for today...
Ken Nielsen
I may as well include this screen shot as the output is only able to be 'built in' and as I remember both input and output were set to the Scarlett, but my memory is fuzzy on if that is true, anyway, the output choice is not available other than for the one choice it is set at. shivermetimbers
Look at the Focusrite website an see if there is/are updated Software Drivers available for download.
fisherking
turn off software monitoring. reboot. open logic, set the 2i2 as your output and input. save. quit logic, re-open it. is the 2i2 still showing as output/input? make sure 'direct monitor' is on... i used a 2i2 for several years, first in logic 9, then X...and never had a problem. just seems...it should be something simple... good luck! Ken Nielsen
For Shivermetimbers and fisherking - Bravo! First, there is no driver update but there is a Apple 'Class Compliant' download that needs to be installed for El Capitan... I did think that I saw both input and output needed to be set to the interface when I was using this set-up last year. Things that have changed since last year are 1.) definitely a new OS for the Mac and this can always run into 'hitches' with existing software. When I installed the Class Compliant update to the OS then I was allowed to set both Input and Output to the Scarlett 2i2. This made things happen, so a little schmoozing with settings for sound preferences both in the OS and in Logic Pro finally got me into being able to do a recording. I didn't see anything for 'Direct Monitor' so is that in version X of Logic Pro and not in 9? I'm still fumbling around, so this has not fixed me, but it certainly has fixed the problem I was having... Big Thanks To Everyone Here for helping me with this problem... and also here is a screen shot from the Focusrite site for others to enjoy...
