navcom
Hi all. First time poster here. Great forum! Lots of answers! Now my question. I'm running Logic Pro X on a 27" iMac. I have a Roland Gaia synth attached via USB cable as well as running L/R audio cables to a PreSonus Audiobox. It's totally recognized...I can create an audio track and play the Gaia stand-alone, use it as a MIDI keyboard to control a track, or I can set up an external MIDI instrument and control the Gaia from Logic. I just have one problem...whenever I change to a different preset patch on the Gaia, it also changes the instrument in Logic at the same time...in other words, the Gaia is somehow changing the track instrument using it's sound bank keys through it's MIDI connection. I didn't do this before I set up an external MIDI instrument for the first time. It doesn't change the physical sound in Logic since the Gaia is controlling the sound...but changes the instrument number on the track to one of Logic's instruments and also loads all the audio effects, such as reverb, amp, delay, etc. To fix it, I can leave the instrument alone, but I have to go and reset the channel so it deletes all the audio effects...very annoying. Does this make sense? I'm not sure why the Gaia is doing this. Everything else works perfectly. There has to be a MIDI setting/channel somewhere that is now telling Logic to take commands from the synths patch bank buttons to change the instrument in Logic...just don't know where to go to tell it to stop doing that! Any idea on how to uncouple this ability? Bear in mind that I'm fairly new to Logic and while I can get around it pretty well, I'm not an advanced user. MIDI connections and controls are still fairly new to me. Thanks so much for any help you can be! Jeff
Atlas007
This is most likely due to the fact that your Roland Gaia keyboard transmits a PC (Program Change) MIDI message, which Logic reacts to. That is normal behavior. To avoid that, you could turn off that transmission from your keyboard (as explained on p.53 of your user manual). To toggle Program Change transmission : 1. Hold down the [CANCEL/SHIFT] button and press the [V-LINK] button. 2. Hold down the [PLAY/STOP] button and press the [PRESET PATCH] button.Button lit: ON Button unlit: OFF 3. Press the [CANCEL/SHIFT] button. Additionally, you might want turning off the (presets/patches) bank selection transmission also. To toggle Bank Select Ttransmission: 1. Hold down the [CANCEL/SHIFT] button and press the [V-LINK] button. 2. Hold down the [PLAY/STOP] button and press the [uSER PATCH] button.Button lit: ON Button unlit: OFF 3. Press the [CANCEL/SHIFT] button. Alternately, you could block the incoming MIDI PC messages within Logic, using the filter function of a Fader object in the Environment.
