fisherking
i have a friend who plays acoustic guitar (really well, too). he wants to play into a mic, and have his playing turned into a score. possible? any app that can do this with 'complex' audio? any thoughts, anyone? it's far outside the scope of what i know (and do). thanx! Eriksimon
MeloDyne DNA is the only software I know off that can separate chords into individual pitches - you can then export it as a MIDI file, which you can use to create a score.
Eric Cardenas
The best approach is to get a MIDI microphone for the guitar: Fishman | TriplePlay Wireless MIDI Guitar Controller

Eriksimon
I think Erics' tip is better, also because it is developed specifically for guitars, where Melodyne DNA is not. Also, MD DNA is strictly post-production, and the Fishman stuff is realtime.

Eric Cardenas
The TriplePlay is primarily for electric guitars but works fine in acoustic guitars too. Ben Morris modifies his Martin guitar for TriplePlay » TripleTalk Melodyne DNA is ok but it's really not that easy to extract polyphonic material. You will probably have to limit its range and go through the whole take manually ensuring that all the notes are really the right ones and not overtones or other misinterpreted sounds.
